I keep hearing phrases like "We made it!" and "Another Mardi Gras over!"
For a person new to living in New Orleans this Mardi Gras was incredibly easy. I rode my bike everywhere, as usual, and didn't suffer from FOMO, as usual. FOMO being the Fear Of Missing Out. (A new phrase I learned these past weeks.) Slightly stranger, I did not watch one full parade... maybe this is mardi gras blasphemy but I like to look at it like this... next year parades will still be super exciting and slightly new for me.
What I did learn about this Mardi Gras is that crawfish boils are serious business!
But costumes may be even more serious! Handmade, raunchy, creative, and loud will all earn you bonus points.
And if you throw a house party you might get protested! You never know! (In the defence of the homeowner, they were offering people free fried chicken and wine to passersby, the uninvited, and leaving guests.)
Last but not least, dance your little feet off! Whether it be at an underground word-of-mouth witches parade, on Frenchman, in the street lip-synching to 90's R&B, or swingin' out to a live band somewhere!
